theavantgardener-deactivated201 asked: I'm intrigued by your baritone ukulele. I don't think I've ever seen one before. Can you tell me a little bit about it? How did you come about becoming a baritone ukuleleist?

It’s by Lanikai, and it’s great. The terrible sound quality of my laptop mic doesn’t do justice to the warmth of the tones, and by ukulele standards, it gets pretty loud.

I’ve been teaching myself ukulele in a sort of non-committed, dilletante-ish way for a few years. My “real” instrument is piano, and I also own (and am shamefully bad at playing) a celtic harp. I just wanted an instrument I could travel and walk around with, so ukulele it is. My first uke was closer in size to what most people think of as a standard ukulele. I wanted something with a richer sound; at my local music store, I happened upon the baritone uke, which is essentially just a larger (hence, deepr) version of a standard ukulele. I bought it two years ago, and am really in love with it. For a little four-string acoustic instrument, it can do a lot.
